GREENWOOD – The Lander softball team scored all three of its runs in the fifth inning of the first game en route to a 3-0 shutout and a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader split against USC Aiken Saturday afternoon at Doug Spears Field. The Pacers claimed the second game, 2-1, in 10 innings.
Lander moves to 21-21 overall and 3-11 in the PBC, while USCA is 20-10, 9-5.
In the first game, Lander's Kelsey Davis (4-2) earned the win after striking out one, walking one and allowing four hits in the seven-inning, complete game shutout.
USCA's India Kornegay (15-8) suffered the loss, striking out four, walking two and allowing three earned runs on six hits in six innings pitched.
Lander tallied all three of its runs in the fifth inning when Brittney Sheriff scored on Jaime Presnell's fielder's choice and Chasity Davis drove in Taylor Donson and Jaime Presnell.
For Lander, Sheriff went 2-for-3.
For USC Aiken, Kaitlyn White batted 2-for-3.
In the second game, USCA's Victoria Burkett belted the game-winning home run in the 10th inning.
The Pacer's Kornegay (16-8) earned the win in relief as she struck out three, walked one and allowed no runs on three hits in five innings pitched.
Lander's Hayley Leissner (10-11) took the loss after striking out two and allowing two earned runs on six hits in the complete 10 innings.
USCA took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Burkett was hit by a pitch and later scored on a wild pitch.
The Bearcats tied the game at 1-all in the sixth on Donson's RBI double that plated Sheriff.
For Lander, Sheriff and Presnell both batted 3-for-5.
For USCA, Brandy Bossle went 2-for-4.
