COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Lander softball team suffered a pair of heart-breaking losses Saturday afternoon as Columbus State claimed the Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at Cougar Field. The Cougars won the first game, 3-1, then took the second, 1-0 in eight innings.

CSU improves to 25-11 overall and 4-2 in the PBC, while Lander moves to 17-19, 1-9.

In the first game, Lander's Tyler Riendeau (1-1) took the loss with one strikeout, three walks and three earned runs on eight hits in six innings pitched.

Columbus State's Taylor Turner (6-2) earned the win after striking out one, walking one and allowing one earned run on three hits in six innings. Mollie Russell was credited with her third save of the season after striking out the side in the seventh.

Columbus took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on Branigan Wix's RBI single that plated Taylor Turner.

Lander tied the game at 1-1 in the sixth inning when Jaime Presnell's RBI triple scored Brittney Sheriff, who reached on a single.

The Cougars won the game in the bottom of the sixth on Morgan Knight's two-RBI single that scored Nina Rubio and Kristen Gregory.

In the second game, Columbus State won on Kara Gordon's RBI single in the eighth.

CSU's Russell (11-6) earned the two-hit, complete game shutout by tossing eight strikeouts.

Lander's Hayley Leissner (9-11) took the loss despite striking out 13, walking five and allowing one earned run on four hits in 7.1 innings.

For the Cougars, Rubio batted 2-for-3 and Gordon 2-for-4.
