Lander softball defeats North Greenville, 7-1 and 6-1

TIGERVILLE - The Lander softball team used a Kelsey Davis grand slam in the first game and a two-run homer by Chasity Davis in the second game to sweep North Greenville University, 7-1 and 6-1, in a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.

Lander improves to 17-17 overall, while North Greenville drops to 13-5.

In the first game, Lander jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Jaime Presnell's two-run homer.

The Crusaders cut the lead to 2-1 in the second after Courtney Campbell singled and later scored on a throwing error, but Lander responded in the third with Kelsey Davis' grand slam.

Lander loaded the bases up again in the fourth and made it 7-1 on Kelsey Davis' bases-loaded walk that plated Brittney Sheriff.

Lander's Kelsey Davis (3-2) earned the win, striking out six, walking two and allowing no earned runs on nine hits in the complete seven innings pitched.

North Greenville's Rachel Glazebrook (7-2) took the loss after striking out four, walking four and allowing six earned runs on five hits in three innings pitched.

For the Bearcats, Presnell went 3-for-4 with two RBI, Sheriff 2-for-4 and Chasity Davis 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles.

For North Greenville, Kansas Wofford batted 3-for-3.

In the second game, Chasity Davis' two-run homer in the fourth inning over the centerfield wall gave the Bearcats a 2-0 lead, then her RBI single in the sixth plated Kelsey Davis for a 3-0 lead.

North Greenville scored its lone run of the game in the sixth on Amy Nagle's RBI single.

Lander finished off the scoring in the seventh when the Bearcats scored three unearned runs on RBI singles by Presnell and Melanie Davis and a wild pitch that sent Taylor Donson home.

Hayley Leissner (9-10) earned her second win of the day with four strikeouts, one walk and one earned run on seven hits in the complete seven innings.

North Greenville's Laura Hopper (0-2) took the loss with one walk and two earned runs on seven hits in the complete seven innings.

For Lander, Chasity Davis batted 3-for-4.

Campbell went 2-for-3 for North Greenville.
