GREENWOOD – The UNC Pembroke softball team earned a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader sweep over Lander Saturday afternoon at Doug Spears Field. The Braves won the first game, 2-0, and took the second, 3-0.
UNCP improves to 13-16 overall and 2-2 in the PBC, while Lander slips to 15-17, 1-7.
In the first game, UNCP's Natalie Klemann (4-4) earned the complete game shutout with six strikeouts and four hits in seven innings.
Lander's Hayley Leisnner (8-8) took the loss after striking out five, walking three and allowing two runs (none earned) on three hits in the complete seven innings.
UNCP took a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning when Holly Berry reached on an error, advanced to second on a wild pitch, stole third, and scored on Karlee Wilson's RBI double to left centerfield.
Ashley Harrell scored the Braves' final run in the seventh when she walked, stole second and went home on an error.
In the second game, The Braves' Jamie Burwell (4-4) notched the complete game win with eight strikeouts, two walks and four hits in seven innings of work.
Leissner suffered her second loss of the afternoon with two strikeouts, three walks and three earned runs on nine hits in five innings pitched.
UNCP's Karlee Wilson stroked a three-run homer in the fifth inning that plated Kaytee Wilson and Kristen Hobbs for the only runs scored in the game.
Kesley Davis went 2-for-2 for Lander, while UNCP's Harrell batted 2-for-3 and Hobbs 2-for-4.
