ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Lander softball team earned its first Peach Belt victory of the season Saturday afternoon when the Bearcats split a PBC doubleheader at Flagler College. Lander won the opener, 5-2, then dropped the second game, 3-2.
Lander moves to 13-13 overall and 1-5 in the PBC, while Flagler is 23-8, 2-2.
In the first game, Hayley Leissner (8-6) earned the win for Lander in 2.2 innings pitched with two strikeouts, two walks and one hit.
Flagler's Kalyn Loverich (10-5) took the loss, striking out two, walking four and allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits in 5.1 innings.
The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the second on Tori Jolley's RBI double down the left field line.
Lander rallied for a 2-1 lead in the fourth when Jaime Presnell went home on a bases-loaded wild pitch and Chasity Davis drove in Arielle Buchholz.
With one out in the fifth, Flagler tied the game at 2-2 when Robyn Draper scored on a bases-loaded walk. Lander turned a double play to end the inning.
Melanie Davis and Alyssa Hartley scored on back-to-back, bases-loaded walks in the sixth to give Lander a 4-2 lead.
The Bearcats scored their final run in the seventh when, with bases loaded, Chasity Davis was hit by a pitch and sent Sarah Fuller home.
In the second game, Lander jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Buchholz's RBI single to centerfield.
Flagler took a 3-1 advantage in the fourth inning, when Whitney Little scored on a throwing error, Sarah Albino went home on a bases-loaded walk, and Lauren Bessent advanced on Kaycee Lisa's sacrifice fly.
Lander cut the lead to 3-2 in the sixth on Hartley's RBI single.
Leissner (8-7) suffered the loss with two strikeouts, three walks and three runs (none earned) on four hits in six innings pitched.
The Saints' Donna Munafo (9-1) was awarded the win after striking out six, walking one and allowing two earned runs on six hits in the complete seven innings.
