Box Score FLORENCE - The No. 9 ranked Lander men's soccer team clinched its seventh Peach Belt Conference regular-season championship Saturday night when the Bearcats downed Francis Marion, 3-1.
Lander, which won PBC titles in 1991, '93, '95, '96, 2006, and '10, improve to 12-2-1 overall and 7-1-1 in the PBC, while Francis Marion drops to 5-9-2, 1-6-2.
The Bearcats will find out later today who they will host in the first round of the PBC tournament at 7 p.m., Tuesday, at the Jeff May Complex.
Lander took a 1-0 lead at 59:37 when Matthew Bell netted a goal on a double-assist from Chris Hobbs and Matthew Osmond.
The Bearcats extended the margin to 2-0 less than one minute later when Hobbs found the back of the net on another Osmond assist from right in front of the goal.
FMU scored its lone goal of the night at 61:39 to cut the lead to 2-1 on David Sheridan's goal, which was assisted by Cody Farrier.
The Bearcats' final score came at 74:53 when Kevin Durand fired in a free kick from 28 yards out at 74:23.
Lander outshot FMU, 20-8, and led in corner kicks, 7-3.
FMU goalkeeper Logan Fisher had six goals, while Lander's Barrett Nielsen had one.
