Box Score COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Lander women's soccer team earned what might be the biggest win in program history Saturday afternoon when the Lady Bearcats defeated No. 10 Columbus State, 2-0, in a Peach Belt Conference contest.
Lander, which notched its fifth shut out of the season, improves to 10-1-3 overall and 8-0-1 in the PBC, while CSU drops to 13-2-1, 6-2-1. The victory is the first-ever over the Cougars in nine meetings (1-6-2). Columbus State entered the game as the second-ranked team in the Southeast Region, while Lander is fifth.
Jamie Shaw, who is Lander's all-time career leader in goals scored with 37, gave Lander a 1-0 lead at 39:11 when she headed in Kimberly Kesler's rebounded shot off the crossbar. The goal was Shaw's 11th of the season.
The Lady Bearcats made it 2-0 at 65:46 on Kendall Couch's third goal of the season.
Columbus State outshot Lander, 18-11, and led in corner kicks, 7-3.
Lander goalkeeper Kelsey Blair totaled seven saves, while CSU's Mary Mancin had two.
The Lady Bearcats will host North Georgia at 4:30 p.m., next Wednesday.
