NEWBERRY – Kofi Kufuor fired in the golden goal just 32 seconds into overtime Saturday afternoon to lead the Newberry men's soccer team to a 2-1 non-conference upset against No. 9-ranked Lander.
With the win, Newberry improves to 4-3 overall, while Lander drops to 4-2-1.
The Indians took a 1-0 lead at 27:09 when Stephen Harvey scored on an assist from Kyle Maitland.
Brian Riehl netted his first goal of the season for Lander at 60:33 to tie the game at 1-1 and force the overtime.
Lander outshot the Indians, 30-14, and led in corner kicks, 11-3.
Newberry goalkeeper Joel Johnson had 10 saves, while Lander's Scott Playle tallied six.
