AMERICUS, Ga. -- It was the same story on a different day for the Lander softball team as the Bearcats repeated Saturday's outcome against Columbus State on Sunday when they lost a pair of one-run games in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at Georgia Southwestern. GSW took the first game, 2-1, and the second, 3-2.
Georgia Southwestern improves to 22-26 overall and 6-12 in the PBC, while Lander dips to 19-18, 4-10.
In the first game, the Bearcats took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning when Brittney Sheriff scored on a wild pitch.
GSW scored both its runs in the third on Nichole Griffin's RBI double that plated Mason Morleand and Gabby Buck.
Katie Mueller (4-2) earned the win after striking out one and allowing no runs on four hits in seven innings.
Hayley Leissner (12-12) took the loss, while striking out eight, walking five and allowing one earned run on three hits in six innings pitched.
In the second game, Tiffany Milstid (2-1) was awarded the win after striking out three, walking four and giving up no earned runs on six hits in the complete seven innings.
