AUGUSTA, Ga. - The eighth-seeded Lander women's tennis team suffered an early exit Friday afternoon in the Peach Belt Conference tournament after losing to No. 1-ranked and top-seeded Armstrong Atlantic State University, 5-0, in a quarterfinal match at the Newman Tennis Center.
Armstrong Atlantic improves to 22-2 overall, while Lander moves to 14-9.
In doubles matches, No. 1 Alida Muller-Wehlau/Barbora Krtickova (A) def. Melanise Newbold/Aurelia Ruffat (L), 8-1; No. 2 Kathleen Henry/Tina Ronel (A) def. Nicola James/Eliza Adusumilli (L), 8-3; and No. 3 Jessica Gardefjord/Aleksndra Filipovski (A) def. Brandi Cordell/Cayce Bradley (L), 8-2.
With the sweep in doubles, the Lady Pirates only needed two wins in singles to claim the match and advance to Saturday's semifinals. Tina Ronel (A) def. Nicola James (L), 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 and Kathleen Henry (A) downed Cayce Bradley (L), 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5.
