GREENWOOD – The UNC Pembroke softball team recorded a pair of 4-0 Peach Belt Conference victories over Lander Tuesday afternoon at a rain-soaked Doug Spears Field.
UNCP improves to 17-15 overall and 5-5 in the PBC, while Lander moves to 19-14, 4-6.
In the first game, UNCP's Starr Gilley (5-3) earned the win after striking out three, walking four and allowing three hits.
Lander's Hayley Leissner (12-9) suffered the loss after striking out nine, walking one and allowing two earned runs on five hits in seven innings pitched.
UNCP took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Loren Bartz's solo homerun to left field.
The Braves stretched the lead to 4-0 in the sixth when Taylor Cloninger scored on a wild pitch and Morgan Patrick's RBI double to left field plated Holly Berry and Courtney Hill.
For UNCP, Bartz went 1-for-3.
In the second game, UNCP's Jamie Burwell (6-5) was awarded the win after striking out 13, walking one and allowing two hits in seven innings.
Lander's Leissner took the loss while striking out three, walking three and allowing one earned run on four hits in six innings of work.
The Braves went up 1-0 in the third when Cloninger's RBI single scored Kellie Van Dyke. UNCP made it 3-0 in the sixth when Patrick and Berry both scored as a result of Lander errors.
Jamie Burwell scored UNCP's final run in the seventh on a passed ball.
For Lander, Rachelle Adkins went 1-for-3 with one double.
