GREENWOOD – Morgan Robinson's seventh-inning RBI single drove in Jaime Presnell to give Lander a 1-0 victory in the second game and a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader sweep over Francis Marion Thursday afternoon at Doug Spears Field. In the first game, Hayley Leissner (12-7), who earned both wins while giving up just three hits, tossed a one-hit shutout for a 4-0 win.
Lander improves to 19-12 overall and 4-4 in the PBC, while Francis Marion drops to 20-15-1, 5-7.
Presnell reached on a single to start the inning. After advancing to second base on Sarah Fuller's sacrifice bunt, Presnell was tagged on a rundown to third, but was later ruled safe at second due to an obstruction call on FMU shortstop Lindsey Brown. Robinson drove Presnell home with her single to left centerfield on the next at bat.
Leisnner struck out three and allowed just two hits in the complete seven innings.
FMU's Cea Knox (10-8) took the loss after striking out three, walking five and allowing five hits.
Presnell went 2-for-3 for Lander.
In the first game, Leissner earned the win after striking out six, walking two and allowing just one hit in the complete seven innings.
FMU's Kayla Ellingsen (8-6) took the loss after striking out nine, walking one and giving up one earned run on eight hits in six innings.
The Bearcats took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Presnell singled to centerfield, advanced to third on Fuller's single, and scored on Robinson's RBI single up the middle.
Lander stretched the lead to 4-0 in the fifth after Brittney Sheriff scored on a throwing error and Rachelle Adkins' two-RBI double plated Taylor Donson and Jade Deason.
For Lander, Sheriff (2-for-4) and Adkins (1-for-3, two RBI) both doubled.
Ashley Jaramillo recorded FMU's lone hit.
