MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Hayley Leissner tossed a three-hit shutout in game one and the Bearcats were held to four hits in game two as the Lander softball team split a non-conference doubleheader against Pfeiffer Sunday afternoon at Jack Ingram Field. Lander won the first game, 2-0, and dropped the second, 3-0.
Lander moves to 14-11 overall, while Pfeiffer is 13-13.
In the first game, Leissner (8-6) earned the win after striking out eight, walking two and allowing just three hits in the complete seven innings.
Pfeiffer's Allison Braswell (5-5) took the loss as she struck out four, walked three and allowed two earned runs on 10 hits in seven innings.
Lander took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Taylor Donson's RBI double plated Brittney Sheriff. The Bearcats stretched the margin to 2-0 in the fourth after Casey Corbitt's RBI single scored Rachelle Adkins.
For Lander, Donson batted 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI, while Sheriff, Adkins and Corbitt all went 2-for-3.
In the second game, Pfeiffer took a 1-0 lead in the third on Hannah Jackson's RBI single and added two more runs in the sixth on Kirsten Patterson's sacrifice fly and Braswell's RBI single.
Melanie Conklin (6-4) was tagged the winning pitcher as she struck out one, walked three and allowed four hits in seven innings pitched.
Lander's M.K. Pegram (3-3) suffered the loss after striking out two, walking one and allowing two earned runs on four hits in six innings of work.
For Pfeiffer, Braswell went 1-for-3 with one double and Jackson hit 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
For Lander, Sheriff, Adkins, Corbitt and Chasity Davis had singles.
