GREENWOOD - The Lander women's tennis team won its first Peach Belt Conference match of the season Sunday afternoon when the Lady Bearcats defeated UNC Pembroke, 8-1, at The Joe Cabri Courts.

Lander improves to 6-1 overall and 1-1 in the PBC, while UNCP drops to 1-4, 0-3.

In singles, No. 1 Brandi Cordell (LU) def. Jenna McGary (UNCP), 6-4, 6-3; No. 2 Mia Winterbottom (UNCP) def. Aurelia Ruffat (LU), 6-2, 7-6; No. 3 Eliza Adusumilli (LU) def. Hannah Herlocker (UNCP), 6-2, 6-0; No. 4 Nicola James (LU) def. Maricel Quintero (UNCP), 6-0, 6-1; No. 5 Cayce Bradley (LU) def. Madeline DiNunzio (UNCP), 6-2, 6-2; and No. 6 Melanise Newbold (LU) def. Christian Minnick (UNCP), 6-0, 4-6, 10-8.

In doubles, No. 1 Ruffat/Bradley (LU) def. McGary/Herlocker (UNCP), 8-6; No. 2 Adusumilli/Cordell (LU) def. Winterbottom/DiNunzio (UNCP), 8-0; and No. 3 James/Newbold (LU) def. Quintero/Minnick (UNCP), 8-5.
