ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The No. 2-ranked Lander women's basketball team placed four players in double figures Saturday afternoon as the Lady Bearcats breezed past Flagler College, 89-51, in a Peach Belt Conference contest.
Lander improves to 25-1 overall and 15-1 in the PBC, while Flagler slips to 6-18, 3-13.
Shannon McKever led the way for the Lady Bearcats with 17 points and five rebounds in just 21 minutes of play, while Ciara Lyons added 14 points, Nardia Robbins 13 points and six assists, and Brittni Johnson 10 points. Lyons, a junior, is nine points shy of reaching the 1,000-point milestone.
Flagler was led by Charlsea Owen's 10 points. Shelbi Lindsey and Tierra Ford added eight and seven rebounds respectively for the Lady Saints.
The Lady Saints stayed right with Lander for the first six minutes of the game and led 13-9 with 14:35 remaining in the half. Lander regained the lead at 14-13 on a Robbins three at 13:53 and earned its first double-figure advantage at 26-15 on a Brianna Webb three at 11:21.
Lander, which led 52-37 at halftime, got its first 20-point lead at 50-30 on another Johnson three with 2:55 left in the first half. Lyons' jumper with 8:14 left in the game gave the Lady Bearcats their first 30-plus point lead at 76-45. Lander's biggest margin was 42 points on a Chentieh Ladson layup that made it 88-46 with 1:44 left to play.
The Lady Bearcats were 36-of-77 (46.8 percent) from the field, including 7-of-18 (38.9 percent) from the three-point line. Lander made 10-of-16 free throws (62.5 percent).
Flagler connected on 16-of-48 floor shots (33.3 percent), including 5-of-21 threes (23.8 percent). The Lady Saints sank 14-of-17 foul shots (82.4 percent).
Flagler outrebounded Lander, 40-37. The Lady Bearcats forced 36 Lady Saint turnovers while only committing nine.
