ANDERSON - The Lander softball team dropped its first doubleheader of the season Wednesday night when the Bearcats lost to Anderson University, 8-3 and 7-2, in a non-conference matchup.
Anderson improves to 7-2, while Lander slips to 5-3 overall.
In the first game, Hayley Leissner (3-1) suffered her first loss of the season as she struck out five, walked three and allowed seven earned runs on seven hits in four innings pitched.
Anderson's Casey Deer was awarded the win after striking out six, walking two and allowing two earned runs on nine hits in the complete seven innings.
For Lander, Alyssa Hartley batted 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI, while Brittney Sheriff went 3-for-4 with one run scored.
Anderson was led by Abby Child, who went 4-for-4 with one homer and two RBI, while Danielle Swygert was 1-for-3 with one run and three RBI.
Lander outhit the Trojans, 9-8.
