GREENWOOD - The Lander volleyball team earned its first Peach Belt Conference victory of the season Friday night when it defeated UNC Pembroke, 3-1, in Horne Arena. Lander won 25-21, 22-25, 25-22, 27-25.
Lander improves to 6-6 overall and 1-4 in the PBC, while UNC Pembroke falls to 8-4, 1-2.
Magi Nottingham and Melissa McCracken had 17 kills and 15 digs each to lead the Bearcats. Lindsey Everhart chipped in 12 kills, while Candace LaRocca had 53 assists and nine digs, Madison Kubal 33 digs and two service aces, and Abbey Focht 11 digs.
For the Braves, Tiara Anderson and Rachel Young had 11 and 10 kills respectively, while Heather Bolwerk added 35 assists and 11 digs, Marissa Baker 33 digs and Jennifer Grunden and Rebecca Morgan 11 digs each. Tricia Varno and Young had three service aces each, while Shay Peterson had six blocks and Morgan and Young five each.
Lander will host Francis Marion in a PBC match at 2 p.m. Saturday.
