GREENWOOD - The Lander men's soccer team rallied from three shots down in the final 20 minutes of regulation then defeated Newberry College on Fred Parker's 25-yard shot to claim a 5-4 non-conference overtime victory Wednesday night.
Lander evens its record at 2-2, while Newberry drops to 1-3-1.
Down 4-1 when Newberry's Stephen Harvey scored on an assist from David Contee at the 70:07 mark, Lander rallied for three straight goals.
Craig Hughes led the rally when he scored back-to-back goals. The first came on an assist from Zach Acree at 70:44 and the second off Jamie Davison's corner kick at 78:34. Davison tied the game at 86:38 on a free kick.
Newberry took a quick 1-0 lead on Adrian Ochoa's unassisted goal at 4:27.
Lander tied the game at 1-1 at 44:28 when Acree scored on a Hughes assist.
The Wolves took a 3-1 lead when Ochoa netted his second goal at 45:55 off his own rebound and Joao Delgado scored on a penalty kick.
Lander outshot Newberry, 28-12, and led in corner kicks, 14-2.
Newberry goalkeeper Joel Johnson recorded 15 saves, while Lander's Matthew Atkinson had three.
