FLORENCE - The Lander softball team's season came to an end Saturday afternoon when the eighth-seeded Bearcats fell to seventh-seeded USC Aiken, 2-1, in the loser's bracket at the Peach Belt Conference tournament at the Freedom Florence Complex.
Lander ends the season at 23-24, while USCA improves to 22-22.
USCA's Toni Flessate improved to 14-10 after striking out nine, walking one and allowing one earned run on four hits in seven complete innings.
Lander's Hayley Leissner (17-6) suffered the loss, striking out three, walking two and allowing two earned runs on six hits in six innings of work.
The Bearcats took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Jacki Haisley scored on Blair Hammonds' RBI single.
The Pacers scored both their runs in the bottom of the inning when Kellie Hair's RBI single plated Whitney Clary and Brandy Bossle's single scored Hair.
Natalie Smith, Brittney Sheriff and Casey Corbitt got Lander's three other hits, while USCA's Clary went 2-for-3 with one double.
