FLORENCE - Lander softball players Marilyn Newman and Hayley Leissner were named to the All-Peach Belt Conference team it was announced at a banquet Thursday night at Francis Marion University.
Newman, a freshman from Piedmont, S.C., was named to the first team as an outfielder. During the season, she ranked fifth in the PBC in hitting with a .378 batting average to go along with two home runs, one triple and eight doubles. She had a .523 slugging percentage and was also 7-for-9 in stolen bases. During the last week of the season, she was selected as the PBC Freshman of the Week.
Leissner, a sophomore pitcher from Jefferson, Ga., was voted to the second team. A two-time All-PBC selection, Leissner posted a 16-4 won-loss record during the season with a 1.37 ERA. She ranks third in the PBC in ERA. Leissner, who was selected the PBC Pitcher of the Week once during the season, also had 155 strikeouts in 132.2 innings pitched.
