MORROW, Ga. - The No. 10 Georgia College & State University men's tennis team defeated Lander, 5-1, Friday night in the first round of the Peach Belt Conference men's tennis tournament hosted by Clayton State University.
Lander moves to 15-6 on the season.
In doubles, No. 1 Joao Casagrande/Jerome Leborgne (GCSU) def. Levan Clark/Pierre Frances (L), 9-8; No. 2 Paul-Henri Arrigoni/Christopher Mattsson (L) def. Max Beliankou/Giovane Nucce (GCSU), 8-5; and No. 3 Leo Bernardes/Johan Wadstein (GCSU) def. Henrik Willers/Gary Bertoldo (L), 8-6.
GCSU clinched the match with three wins in singles. Wadstein (GCSU) defeated Levan Clark (L), 4-1, retired at No. 2; No. 3 Beliankou (GCSU) def. Willers (L), 6-2, 6-1; and No. 5 Bernardes (GCSU) def. Frances (L), 6-2, 6-1.
The Bearcats will now wait to see if they receive a berth in the regional tournament.
