Leissner tosses four-hit shutout in DH split against Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Hayley Leissner tossed a four-hit shutout Saturday afternoon to lead Lander to a 1-0, eleven-inning Peach Belt Conference victory and a split in the doubleheader at Saints Field. Georgia Southwestern won the second game, 10-1. (Game 1 Boxscore | Game 2 Boxscore)

The Bearcats are 19-19 overall and 5-9 in the PBC, while St. Augustine moves to 28-22, 10-10.

Leissner, who improves to 13-4 on the season, struck out 12, walked eight.

Lander's Marilyn Newman scored the lone run of the game when she led off the 11th inning with a double, moved to second on Natalie Smith's bunt single, then scored on a Flagler throwing error.

Newman batted 2-for-4, while Smith went 2-for-5.

In the second game, Flagler scored four runs in the second inning and five in the third. Lander's lone score came in the fifth inning on Ashley Proctor's RBI double that scored Alyssa Hartley.

The game was called in the fifth due to the eight-run rule.

The Bearcats' Shelbey Spencer (4-10) took the loss as she struck out two, walked one and allowed four earned runs on three hits in two innings pitched.
