FLORENCE - The Francis Marion softball team edged Lander by one run in both games of a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader sweep Sunday afternoon. The Patrots won the first game, 4-3, and claimed the second, 3-2. (Game 1 Boxscore | Game 2 Boxscore)

FMU improves to 13-7 overall and 5-5 in the PBC, while Lander moves to 9-13, 1-5.

In the first game, FMU rallied for three runs in the seventh inning to secure the win.

Cea Knox (4-3) earned the win, striking out five, walking three and allowing two earned runs on seven hits in seven innings pitched.

Lander's Shelbey Spencer (3-7) took the loss as she struck out four, walked one and allowed two earned runs on nine hits in 6.1 innings.

Kat Beauvais scored from third on a passed ball in the first inning to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.

Lander took a 2-1 advantage in the sixth. Daisy Stewart's RBI single scored Jacki Haisley and Haley Foster went home on Casey Corbitt's groundout. The Bearcats extended the lead to 3-1 in the seventh on Marilyn Newman's RBI single, which plated Brittney Sheriff.

The Patriots' seventh inning rally started with Chelle Phillips two-RBI double and the game ended when Jessica Birchmeier singled in Phillips.

For Lander, which totaled seven hits, Newman went 2-for-4.

In the second game, FMU's Emily Dean (1-0) recorded the win, allowing two earned runs on four hits in the complete seven innings.

Lander's Amanda Hamby (2-3) took the loss, walking four, and allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits in six innings pitched.

In the Patriots' three-run, fifth inning, Destinea Schneider score on an error, Ashley Jaramillo's RBI double plated Beauvais, and Jaramillo later scored from third on a catcher's error.

Newman homered in the fifth for Lander to cut the score to 3-1, then Haisley scored on Haley Foster's fielder's choice in the seventh.
