GREENWOOD - The No. 7-ranked Lander women's basketball team placed six players in double figures Saturday afternoon as the Lady Bearcats defeated Peach Belt Conference rival Flagler College, 104-77, in front of a Homecoming crowd of 1,875 in Horne Arena.
Lander improves to 22-2 overall and 14-1 in the Peach Belt Conference, while Flagler drops to 8-17, 3-13.
Brittni Johnson led Lander with 19 points on 9-of-18 shooting and added six assists and four steals. Jasmine Judge netted 16 points on 5-of-6 three-pointers, Mukia Myrick and Nardia Robbins scored 14 each, and Shannon McKever and Tasheba Butler had 13 each. McKever, who had three blocked shots, led the team in rebounds with six.
Charlsea Owen scored a game-high 25 points to lead Flagler. Owen made 10-of-16 field goals, including 5-of-9 threes. Jalisa Foster added 12 points and nine rebounds for the Saints and Rachel Brown dropped in 10 points.
Flagler connected on its first six shots of the game to take a 12-8 lead on Jen Knurek's jumper with 16:38 left in the half. The Lady Bearcats tied the game 12-12 on Keondra Barnes' jumper at 14:29, then Lander stretched the margin to 24-18 at 9:45 on a McKever free throw.
The Lady Saints trimmed Lander's lead to 29-27 on a Foster jumper at 7:21, but Lander stretched their lead back out and ended the half on back-to-back jumpers by Myrick and Johnson to take a 48-40 advantage at intermission.
The Bearcats took their first 10-point lead at 50-40 when Johnson scored the first basket of the second half. Lander went on a 22-2 run midway through the second half to build up an 86-55 lead with 9:06 remaining. The Bearcats largest lead of the game was 35 points when Brianna Webb's layup made it 93-58 with 7:09 left to play.
Lander connected on 42-of-81 field goals (9-of-17 threes) for 51.9 percent and made 11-of-15 free throws for 73.3 percent.
The Saints were 28-of-62 from the field (7-of-14 threes) for 45.2 percent and connected on 14-of-21 foul shots for 66.7 percent.
The Bearcats host USC Aiken at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, in a PBC game in Horne Arena.
