NEWBERRY - The No. 16 ranked Lander men's tennis team collected its first victory of the season Wednesday afternoon when the Bearcats defeated Newberry College, 8-1, in a non-conference match.

Lander improves to 1-1 on the season.

In singles, No.1 Paul-Henri Arrigoni (LU) def. Maxim Sukharev, 6-1, 6-1; No. 2 Levan Clark (LU) def. Lucas Mattos, 6-1, 6-0; No. 3 Pierre Frances (LU) def. Pavle Popovic, 6-1, 6-0; No. 4 Juan Manrique (LU) def. Jeremy Smith, 7-6, 6-0; No. 5 Max Desmars (LU) def. Christian Ranquelov, 6-0, 6-3; and No. 6 John Cappabianca (LU) def. Scott Busbee, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, No. 1 Frances/Clark (LU) def. Ranquelov/Smith, 9-8; No. 2 Mattos/Sukharev (N) def. Arrigoni/Gary Bertoldo, 8-5; and No. 3 Christian Mattson/Carlos Marques (LU) def. Popovic/Busbee, 8-2.
