MORROW, Ga. - The Lander men's soccer team earned a share of the Peach Belt Conference regular season championship Saturday night when the Bearcats lost to No. 6 Clayton State, 1-0 in double-overtime, in the regular-season finale.
Lander, 11-6 overall and 7-1 in the PBC, will be the second seed in next week's PBC tournament and will host seventh-seeded UNC Pembroke at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday in the first round. The Lander/UNCP winner will play the winner of No. 3 Flagler/No. 6 North Georgia at 7:30, Friday, Nov. 5 at Blanchard Woods in Evans, Ga. The championship game is set for Sunday, Nov. 7 at Blanchard Woods.
Clayton State (15-2, 7-1), which also claimed a share of the PBC title, won the game when Ryan Pugh scored from in front of the goal on an assist from Matty Phillips in the 102nd minute.
The Lakers outshot Lander, 24-11, and led in corner kicks, 8-5.
Lander goalkeeper Scott Playle had six saves, while Clayton State's Brian Garcia had five.
