TIGERVILLE - Craig Hughes scored the game-winning goal early in the first overtime period Wednesday night to lead the Lander men's soccer team to a 2-1 non-conference victory over North Greenville University.
Lander, which has won five straight games with 2-1 scores, improves to 9-5 overall, while NGU evens its record at 6-6.
North Greenville held a 1-0 lead at halftime when Zach Brownfield scored at 33:05 on an assist from Dustin Williams.
The Bearcats tied the game at 1-1 at 72:09 when Adam Wolfe found the back of the net on an assist by Zach Acree.
Hughes' goal, his eighth of the season, came only 3:11 in the overtime period and was also assisted by Acree.
Lander outshot North Greenville, 10-9, and led in corner kicks, 8-6.
North Greenville goalkeeper Justen Braddock recorded three saves, while Lander's Matt Atkinson had one.
