FLORENCE - The Lander volleyball team snapped a four-game losing streak Saturday afternoon when the Bearcats defeated Francis Marion, 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 28-26, 25-17), in a Peach Belt Conference game.
Lander improves to 9-11 overall and 3-7 in the PBC, while FMU drops to 13-9, 3-6.
Melissa McCracken and Candace LaRocca paced the Bearcats with double doubles. McCracken recorded 12 kills and 11 digs, while LaRocca had 24 assists and 13 digs. Hannah Dederick added a game-high 15 kills and Courtney Simmons contributed 11. Magi Nottingham registered 24 digs and Madison Kubal had 19. Hannah added five solo blocks and one block assist and Lindsey Everhart totaled four block assists. Kubal and McCracken had four and three service aces respectively.
FMU was led by Riley Forester (11 kills, 4 service aces), Mallory Eggert (10 kills, 5 block assists), Nicole Bennette (41 assists), Kelsie Deaton (25 digs), Ashlee Crook (15 digs) and Liz Drewry and Hallie Legg (14 digs).
The Bearcats next travel to Lees-McRae for a 2 p.m. non-conference contest on Saturday, Oct. 23.
