AIKEN - Tasheba Butler scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed six rebounds Saturday afternoon to lead the No. 14 ranked Lander women's basketball team to its ninth straight win, a 76-59 Peach Belt Conference victory over USC Aiken at the Convocation Center.
Lander improves to 16-1 overall and 9-0 in the PBC, while the Lady Pacers drop to 9-10, 4-6.
Butler connected on 8-of-11 field goals and 2-of-3 free throws and added two assists. Shannon McKever added 15 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots, and Brittni Johnson had 15 points and five rebounds.
USCA was paced by Nakia Pinkney's 13 points and nine rebounds, while Catherine Cain added a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Lindsay Sundberg netted 10 points.
After battling back and forth for the first 11 minutes and being tied at 19-19, Lander went on a 25-7 run to end the first half with a 44-36 lead.
The Lady Bearcats established their largest lead at 20 points (50-30) on a McKever layup with 17:49 left in the game.
USCA responded with a 14-2 run and cut the Lander lead to 50-42 on Sundberg's three pointer with 15:50 left to play.
The Lady Bearcats stretched the lead back to 18 points at 68-50 on Butler's layup with 6:45 remaining and the Pacers didn't get it under 13 points the rest of the game.
Lander, which led 44-26 at halftime, connected on 30-of-59 field goals for 50.8 percent, including 6-of-15 three pointers for 40 percent. The Lady Bearcats also made 10-of-16 free throws for 62.5 percent.
USCA made 23-of-62 floor shots for 37.1 percent, including 6-of-20 three pointers for 30 percent. The Lady Pacer made 7-of-11 foul shots for 63.6 percent.
The Lady Pacers outrebounded Lander, 40-36.
