GREENWOOD - The Barry University men's soccer team netted five second-half goals Friday afternoon as the Buccaneers downed Lander, 6-2, in the Bearcats' season-opening game.
Barry evens its record at 1-1, while Lander is 0-1.
Mark Anderson, who netted four goals on the day, gave the Buccaneers a 1-0 lead at 5:19 on an assist from Sascha Koettig.
After leading 1-0 at halftime, Anderson stretched Barry's lead to 2-0 when he chipped the ball over the Lander goalkeeper's head at 65:20 on an assist from Sean Trinidad. Koettig's unassisted goal at 73:12 gave Barry a 3-0 advantage.
Lander cut the margin to 3-1 at 79:07 when Samy Beydoun scored off a blocked shot from the left side.
Barry followed with three straight goals for a 6-1 advantage. Anderson scored from in front of the goal on an assist from Bacheler Jean Pierre at 79:30; Juan Mantilla scored on an assist from Gerardo Sabat at 82:00; and Anderson had an unassisted goal at 85:13.
Adam Arthur's penalty kick at 87:42 gave Lander its final goal of the game.
Barry outshot Lander, 27-12, and led in corner kicks, 15-11.
Lander goalkeeper Scott Playle recorded 11 saves, while Barry's Jony Rodrigues had three.
