GREENWOOD - The Lander men's soccer team battled to a 2-2 double-overtime tie with Francis Marion Wednesday night in the Bearcats' Peach Belt Conference opening game.
Lander is now 3-3-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the PBC, while the Patriots are 5-2-2, 1-0-1.
After a scoreless first half, Aaron Brittain gave Lander a 1-0 lead when he took a Craig Hughes assist and fired it in high into the left side of the goal at 52:48.
The Bearcats stretched the lead to 2-0 at 54:26 when Jamie Davison controlled a deflected pass and drilled it into the goal from 15 feet.
The Patriots cut the margin to 2-1 at 63:03 on Kyle Clinton's shot from in front of the goal off Emerson Peredo's free kick.
FMU tied the game at 2-2 at 79:15 when Peredo scored on Chris Foltanski's assist.
Lander outshot Francis Marion, 15-12, but the Patriots led in corner kicks, 6-4.
FMU goalkeeper Clark Richeson recorded six saves, while Lander's Scott Playle had three.
Lander will travel to Georgia Southwestern Saturday for a PBC contest at 3:30 p.m.
