NEWBERRY - All-American Adam Arthur scored two goals Saturday afternoon to lead the Lander men's soccer team to a 4-0 non-conference victory over Newberry College.

The Bearcats improve to 3-2 overall, while Newberry drops to 1-5-1.

Arthur gave Lander a 1-0 lead at 13:10 on an unassisted goal. Jamie Davison followed with a goal at 16:46 to stretch the Bearcat lead to 2-0.

Arthur scored his second goal of the game at 61:20 when he found the back of the net off a Stephen Magennis corner kick. Aaron Brittain, the 2008 Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year, netted Lander's final goal at 66:25 on a double assist from Ville Toivanen and Jamie Davison.

Newberry outshot the Bearcats, 18-17, but Lander led in corner kicks, 7-5.

Newberry goalkeeper Joel Johnson recorded six saves, while Lander's Scott Playle and Matthew Atkinson had two each.
