SAVANNAH, Ga. - After posting three shutouts in its first three games of the season, the Lander women's soccer team allowed its first goals of the year as No. 23-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University downed the Lady Bearcats, 3-0, Saturday in the Peach Belt Conference opener for both teams.
Armstrong Atlantic improves to 4-1-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the PBC, while Lander is 2-1-1, 0-1-0.
Armstrong Atlantic took a 1-0 lead at 28:45 on a goal by Morgan Mitchell. The Pirates stretched the lead to 2-0 when Kristin Burton, assisted by Amber Raney, scored at 52:05. AASU made it 3-0 at 76:29 when Emily Cattanach found the back of the net on an assist from Burton.
AASU outshot Lander, 21-8, and led in corner kicks, 3-1.
Lander goalkeeper Chelsea Beetch, this week's PBC Goalkeeper of the Week, recorded seven saves, while AASU's Tracey Mitchell had three.
