DAHLONEGA, Ga. - The third-ranked North Georgia College & State University softball team claimed two Peach Belt Conference victories against Lander by way of the eight-run rule Wednesday afternoon at The Hill. North Georgia is now 35-3 overall and 13-1 in the PBC, while Lander is 13-25, 2-11.
The Saints Sarah Phillips (25-1) earned the first of two wins in the opening game as she allowed just one hit while striking out nine and walking one against only 17 batters in five innings.
NGC&SU's Courtney McGuire batted 3-for-3 with one triple, one double, one run scored and one RBI. Laura Voyles went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI, while Stephanie Farmakis went 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Lander's Hayley Leissner (9-18) suffered the loss as she struck out five, walked one and allowed four earned runs in three innings pitched.
In the second game, Phillips struck out two and allowed just two hits in six innings pitched for the victory.
Lander's Aerin Phillips (2-2) took the loss in one-third of an inning in relief.
For North Georgia, Caroline Bower batted 2-for-2 with one home run, one double and four RBI, while Kasey Knight went 2-for-4 with one double and one run. Cox went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI, while McGuire batted 3-for-3 with two runs.
Aubrie Phillips led Lander's batters by going 2-for-2 with two RBI.
