FLORENCE - The Lander softball team saw its season come to an end Saturday when second-seeded Georgia College & State University down the 10th-seeded Bearcats, 7-0, in the Peach Belt Conference tournament at Freedom Florence Park.
Georgia College improves to 31-21, while Lander is 14-31.
GCSU took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on Sabrina Chandler's RBI single and Lindsey Swanson's two-run triple. The Bobcats stretched the lead to 5-0 in the fourth when Haley Holloway scored on a wild pitch and Allison Schwimer stole home. Chandler added an RBI single in the fifth and Sherquita Bostick stroked a solo homer in the sixth to complete the scoring.
GCSU's Mandy Chandler (26-12) earned the win as she struck out 12 and allowed seven hits in six innings pitched.
Lander's Hayley Leissner (10-23) suffered the loss as she struck out two, walked one and allowed three earned runs on five hits in three innings pitched.
For Lander, Sara Senn went 3-for-3 with one double, while Lindsey Sammons went 3-for-4.
For Georgia College, Bostick batted 1-for-4 with a solo home run, while Swanson went 2-for-4 with one triple and two RBI. Holloway went 1-for-2 with one double and one run scored.
