Georgia College softball takes two from Bearcats

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College & State University softball team used a one-hitter in the first game and a four-run fourth inning in the second to post a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader sweep against Lander. The Bobcats won the first game, 2-0, and the second, 5-2. (Game 1 Box | Game 2 Box)

GCSU improves to 20-12 overall and 7-1 in the PBC, while Lander moves to 12-18, 1-7.

In the first game, Mandy Chandler (17-6) earned the win as she struck out nine and allowed one hit in the complete seven innings.

Lander's Nikki Brown (1-1) suffered the loss as she struck out one, walked two and allowed one earned run on four hits in 1.1 innings pitched. Hayley Leissner pitched 4.2 innings in relief and struck out nine and allowed one earned run on four hits.

GCSU scored what proved to be the winning run in the first inning when Lindsey Swanson's sacrifice bunt scored Stephanie Lezcano. The Bobcats closed out the scoring in the sixth inning on Haley Burnett's RBI double.

For GCSU, Lezcano (1-for-2), Sherquita Bostick (2-for-3) and Burnett (1-for-3) all doubled.

Sara Senn got Lander's lone hit.

The Bearcats started the second game with a 2-0 lead when Daisy Stewart's sacrifice fly plated Sara Senn in the first inning and Lindsey Traynham stole home in the second.

GCSU cut the margin to 2-1 in the second inning on Allison Schwimer's RBI single. In the four-run, fourth, Lindsey Swanson stroked a two-RBI single, while Bostick and Tonya Medders added sacrifice flies.

GCSU's Mandy Chandler (18-6) picked up her second victory of the day on the mound as she struck out six, and allowed two earned runs on four hits in the complete seven innngs.

Leissner (7-13) took the loss, while striking out three, and allowing four earned runs on 10 hits in six innings pitched.

For Lander, Senn went 2-for-4, while Carrie Hudson and Natalie Smith each singled.

For GCSU, Anna Parker went 2-for-4 with one double, Lezcano went 3-for-4 and Schwimer went 2-for-3.
