LU baseball wins fifth straight, defeats St. Andrews, 9-6

FLORENCE - The Lander baseball team pounded out 13 hits Sunday afternoon and extended its winning streak to five games when the Bearcats defeated St. Andrews Presbyterian College, 9-6, in a non-conference game at Cormell Field.

Lander is 5-1 overall, while St. Andrews remains winless at 0-5.

Tim Rau (1-0) picked up the win for the Bearcats as he struck out eight and allowed just four hits in six complete innings.

Nate Mangiapane went 2-for-4 with one home run, Josh Lovvorn went 3-for-4 with one double, two runs scored and three RBI, and Devin Ridlehoover went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.

Lander built up a 9-0 lead over the course of the first six innings when the Bearcats scored one in the first, three in the third, two in the fifth and three in the sixth.

St. Andrews rallied in the seventh with five runs and added one more in the ninth.

Lander will host Benedict College at 3 p.m., Tuesday, in a non-conference game at Legion Field.
