GREENWOOD - The Lander softball team pulled out two squeakers against Mars Hill College Saturday in a non-conference doubleheader when the Bearcats won the first game, 6-5, and took the second, 7-5, at Doug Spears Field. (Game 1 Box | Game 2 Box)

After splitting a doubleheader at Mars Hill on Friday, Lander improves to 3-1, while the Lions slip to 1-3.

In the first game, Lander rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh when Nikki Cumalander's two-RBI double plated Lindsey Sammons and Annie Polhamus.

Hayley Leissner earned the victory for Lander in relief, striking out two and allowing one run on three hits in three innings pitched.

MHC's  Tiffany Farthing (0-1) took the loss as she struck out four, walked two and allowed five earned runs on six hits in 6.1 innings pitched.

For Lander, Daisy Stewart went 1-for-2 with one triple and three RBI, Cumalander went 2-for-3 with one double and two RBI and Sammons went 2-for-3.

For Mars Hill, Natalie Haithcox went 2-for-4 with one home run, Rebekah Huff went 1-for-2 with one triple, and Lindsey Barrier went 2-for-4 with four RBI.

In the second game, Lander rallied for six runs in the second inning to propel the Bearcats to the win.

Leissner (2-1) was awarded the win while striking out seven, walking four and allowing one earned run on six hits in 6.2 innings pitched.

Tara West (1-2) suffered the loss while striking out two, walking three and allowing three earned runs on no hits in 1.1 innings pitched.

For Lander, Carrie Hudson went 1-for-3 with two RBI and Sara Senn went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

For Mars Hill, Haithcox went 2-for-4 with one double, Anna James went 2-for-4 and Ashley Angell went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
