GREENWOOD - The Columbus State men's basketball team used a 15-0 run at the beginning of the second half to lead the Cougars to a 76-54 Peach Belt Conference victory over Lander Saturday afternoon at Horne Arena.
CSU improves to 7-12 overall and 5-8 in the PBC, while Lander slips to 9-10, 5-8.
Darius Johnson led the Bearcats with a career-high 18 points and eight rebounds. Johnson connected on 7-of-10 field goals and 4-of-4 free throws. Ford Lawrence and Greg Smalls added six points each for Lander.
Columbus State's Sean Miller scored a game-high 19 points, while Javarus Stewart netted 18, and Nick Gagnon 17. Brandon Bland had a team-high six rebounds while scoring seven points.
After leading 32-28 at halftime, Columbus State went on a 15-0 run to start the second half and led 47-28 on Stewart's three pointer with 14:42 left in the game. During the run, Lander went 0-for-8 from the field.
CSU got up by as many as 22 points when Ify Agbasi's free throw made it 57-35 with 8:29 left.
But Lander slowly chipped away at the lead and got it down to 65-52 on a Houston Wright field goal with 4:04 remaining.
Lander connected on 18-of-58 field goals for 31 percent, including 4-of-24 three pointers for 16.7 percent. The Bearcats made 14-of-18 free throws for 77.8 percent.
CSU shot 25-of-47 from the field for 53.2 percent, including 9-of-15 three pointers for 60 percent. The Cougars were 17-of-22 from the foul line for 77.3 percent.
