MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lander women's tennis team improved to 6-1 overall Thursday afternoon when the Lady Bearcats defeated Mars Hill, 5-2, in a non-conference match.

In singles, No. 1 Erika Pinate (MH) def. Vuokko Vahatalo, 6-1, 6-1; No. 2 Anni Pajunen (LU) def. Patty LaRovere, 6-3, 6-1; No. 3 Eliza Adusumilli (LU) def. Adrianna Borda, 6-3, 6-7, 6-3; and No. 4 Caitlin Fell (LU) def. Jordan Dockery, 6-0, 6-1. The Nos. 5 and 6 match were not completed because Lander scored enough points for the victory.

In doubles, No. 1 Pinate/LaRovere (MH) def. Pajunen/Zaia, 9-8; No. 2 Vahatalo/Fell (LU) def. Borda/Blythe, 9-8; and No. 3 Adusumilli/Newbold (LU) def. Aybar/Dockery, 8-1.
