DAHLONEGA, Ga. - Lander's Dane Sparrow scored a game-high 18 points Wednesday night, but it wouldn't be enough as the North Georgia men's basketball team defeated Lander, 66-55, in a Peach Belt Conference matchup.
North Georgia improves to 15-11 overall and 9-11 in the PBC, while Lander drops to 11-14, 7-12.
Sparrow connnected on 5-of-11 field goals, including 3-of-7 three pointers, while making 5-of-6 free throws. Brenton Harris added a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds, while Darius Johnson netted 10 points.
The Saints were led by Anthony Rowe's 16 points. Brody Langston posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while LaBrian Lyons added 13 points and Michael Moynihan 11.
Lander, which led 34-32 at halftime, connected on 17-of-55 field goals for 30.9 percent, including 5-of-18 three pointers for 27.8 percent. The Bearcats were 16-of-24 from the free throw line for 66.7 percent.
North Georgia made 20-of-46 field goals for 43.5 percent, including 4-of-20 three pointers for 20 percent. The Saints connected on 22-of-34 free throws for 64.7 percent.
Lander stretched its halftime lead to 37-32 on a three pointer by Sparrow to open the second half, then North Georgia rallied to tie the scored at 37-37 on an Rowe layup with 18:37 remaining in the game. A three-point play by Moynihan put the Saints up 41-39 at 16:49 and North Georgia went on an 11-1 run that led to a 53-42 lead at the 10:28 mark.
North Georgia's biggest lead of the second half came at 4:29 when they took a 62-48 lead on a pair of Rowe free throws.
