GREENWOOD - Nardia Robbins nailed an eight-foot jumper with 1.9 second remaining Saturday afternoon to lift the Lander women's basketball team to an 83-82 Peach Belt Conference victory over Georgia College & State University in Horne Arena.
Lander improves to 15-7 overall and 10-5 in the PBC, while GCSU slips to 15-6, 10-4.
Robbin's jumper capped Lander's 10-0 run which began with GCSU leading 82-73 with 3:19 left in the game.
A Shannon McKever free throw cut the margin to 82-74, then Brianna Webb sank two free throws to make it 82-76 with 2:37 left. Webb connected again at 2:02 to cut the lead to 82-78, then her three-pointer at 1:48 made in 82-81.
GCSU missed two jumpers in the final two minutes and the Lady Bearcats set up Robbins' winning shot when the Lady Bobcats' Tiauna Brantley turned the ball over with 53 seconds left.
McKever and TaSheba Butler both posted double-doubles for the Lady Bearcats. McKever netted 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Butler added 12 points and 14 rebounds. Webb finished the game with 18 points, while Ciara Lyons and Johnson scored 10 each.
GCSU placed five players in double figures. Dominique Huffin scored a game-high 28 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Mandi Dudish had 11 points and five assists. Shandrea Moore, Brantley and Emily Bixler scored 10 points each.
The Lady Bearcats, who led 50-45 at halftime, trailed 17-8 with 15:12 left in the first half. Lander forced a 35-35 tie at 4:42 on a Butler field goal, then led for the first time at 37-35 on a Johnson field goal.
Lander connected on 30-of-78 field goals for 38.5 percent, including 7-of-25 three pointers for 28 percent. the Lady Bearcats were 16-of-17 from the free throw line for 94.1 percent.
The Lady Bobcats made 27-of-68 floor shots for 39.7 percent, including 10-of-25 three pointers for 40 percent. GCSU was 18-of-21 from the foul line for 85.7 percent.
