GREENWOOD - The Lander women's soccer team scored two first-half goals in less than one minute of each other Saturday afternoon en route to a 4-0 Peach Belt Conference victory over Clayton State in the regular-season finale for both teams. The PBC tournament brackets will be announced later today.
Lander, which tied a school record for shutouts in a season with eight, improves to 10-3-2 overall and 6-3-1 in the PBC, while Clayton State drops to 4-10-1, 3-6-1.
The Lady Bearcats notched the first goal of the game when Jessica Skowron fired in her first goal of the season on a shot from 20 yards on an assist from Jamie Shaw at 20:35. The Bearcats came right back at 21:25 and took a 2-0 lead when Shaw assisted Christina Barbour in front of the goal. It was Barbour's ninth goal of the year.
Lander extended the lead to 3-0 at 47:15 when Lauren MacDonald scored her second goal of the year on an assist from Taylor Jackson.
The Bearcats made it 4-0 on Shaw's unassisted goal that went through the hands of CSU goakeeper Dominique Trappio at 76:22. It was Shaw's seventh goal of the season.
Lander outshot Clayton State, 23-14, and led in corner kicks, 8-6.
Lander goalkeeper Chelsea Beetch recorded six saves, while Trappio had four.
