AMERICUS, Ga. - Adam Arthur netted a hat trick Saturday afternoon to lead the Lander men's soccer team to its first Peach Belt Conference victory of the season when the Bearcats defeated Georgia Southwestern, 7-0.
Lander improves to 4-3-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the PBC, while Georgia Southwestern moves to 1-9-0, 0-2-0.
Arthur, a two-time NSCAA All-American, gave Lander a 1-0 lead when he found the back of the net on an assist from Craig Hughes at 2:11. Ivan Stoykov scored at 12:48 on an assist from Jamie Davison to give Lander a 2-0 lead.
Arthur scored his second goal on a penalty kick to give Lander a 3-0 lead at 25:56, then the Bearcats stretched the margin to 4-0 at 37:28 on a free kick by Hughes.
Arthur's third goal, on an assist from Jamie Ramm, gave a Lander a 5-0 lead at 46:38.
The Bearcats' final two goals came at 61:08 on an Aaron Brittain penalty kick, and Andy Ludewig's corner kick at 80:51.
GSW goalkeeper Kevin Huet had a game-high five saves, while Lander's Matthew Atkinson had one. Lander led in corner kicks, 5-4.
Lander travels to Anderson College for a 5 p.m. non-conference contest on Wednesday, Oct. 11.
