GREENWOOD - The Lander women's soccer team held No. 3-ranked Columbus State scoreless for the first half, then rallied in the second half before falling 2-1 to the Cougars in a Peach Belt Conference game.
Columbus State remained unbeaten in PBC play as the Cougars improved to 13-0-1 overall and 6-0-0 in the PBC. Lander moves to 9-2-2, 5-2-1.
Columbus took a 1-0 lead at 52:14 on Gina Goforth's goal from in front of the left side of the goal on an assist from Rachel Walthall.
The Cougars stretched the margin to 2-0 at 63:03 when Jill Walthall scored from the right side of the goal on an assist from Melinda Bush.
The Bearcats cut the margin to 2-1 at 82:41 on Jamie Shaw's point blank shot from the left side assisted by Christina Barbour.
Columbus State outshot the Bearcats, 10-8, and led in corner kicks, 5-4.
CSU goalkeeper Kelly Nimmo recorded five saves, while Lander's Chelsea Beetch had three.
Lander will host Montevallo at 1:30 this Saturday in a PBC contest.
