GREENWOOD - The Lander women's soccer team, which is ranked No. 7 in the Southeast Region, notched its seventh shut out of the season on a wet and sloppy field Thursday night when the Bearcats defeated USC Aiken, 1-0, in a Peach Belt Conference game.
Lander improves to 8-1-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the PBC, while USC Aiken drops to 2-10, 0-7.
Lander scored the lone goal of the game at 33:41 when Kendall Couch found the back of the net on a 30-yard shot that ricocheted off the fingertips of USCA goalkeeper Nicole Westphal. It was Couch's second goal of the season.
The Pacers best opportunity for a score came in the 50th minute when Maria Frontroth went one-on-one with Lander goalkeeper Rachel Baggett and sent the shot just wide right.
Lander outshot the Pacers, 11-7, and led in cornerkicks, 5-3.
USCA goalkeeper Nicole Westphal had five saves and Lander's Baggett had one.
The Lady Bearcats will travel to UNC Pembroke for a PBC contest on Saturday, Oct. 17.
