AMERICUS, Ga. - The Lander men's basketball team suffered its fifth straight loss Saturday afternoon when homestanding Georgia Southwestern defeated the Bearcats, 70-63, in a Peach Belt Conference contest.

GSW improves 8-11 overall and 4-8 in the PBC, while Lander slips to 8-9, 4-7.

For Lander, Curtis Milner connected on 8-of-11 field goals and 1-of-1 free throws for 17 points, while grabbing eight rebounds and blocking four shots. Brenton Harris added 11 points in the win.

The Hurricanes were led by Evan Mobley's game-high 24 points. Chris Rawls added 14 points and 11 rebounds and Marcus Scott netted 12 points.

Lander, which led 26-21 at halftime, connected on 26-of-63 field goals for 41.3 percent, including only 2-of-10 threes (20 percent), and 9-of-12 free throws for 75 percent.

GSW was 24-of-48 from the field for 50 percent, including 4-of-9 three pointers (44.4 percent), and 18-of-22 free throws for 81.8 percent.

Lander out-rebounded the Hurricanes 40-27.

The Bearcats biggest lead in the first half was seven points when they took a 26-19 advantage with 2:08 remaining on a Jacob Davis layup.

GSW rallied early in the second half and took the lead at 33-32 with 14:50 left in the game on a pair of Scott free throws. The Hurricanes extended the margin to 10 at 50-40 at 8:13 on a Rawls field goal.

Lander cut the lead to four points, 55-51, on a Curtis Milner three-point play at 4:42, and that is as close as the Bearcats would get the rest of the game.

Lander will host North Georgia in a PBC contest at 7:30 p.m., Monday, in Horne Arena.
