MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Led by Jake Rios' 17 first-half points, Georgia College & State University's men's basketball team handed Lander its first Peach Belt Conference loss of the season at the Centennial Center Saturday afternoon, 92-59.
GCSU improves to 9-1 overall and 3-1 in the PBC, while Lander slips to 7-3, 3-1.
Rios was a perfect 6-of-6 in the first half with the Bearcats making adjustments on him to not allow another score in the second half. Graham Martin added 14 points, with Shaun Keaton getting 10 points and a game-high five assists.
Jacob Davis was the only Lander player in double-digit scoring with 12 points off the bench, pulling down six boards.
Georgia College hit 53 percent (37-70) from the floor, its best shooting performance of the 10-game season. Lander managed just 34 percent (21-61) from the field.
The Bobcats moved the lead to double-digits for good with a Rios three at 5:48 left in the first half and never looked back. The lead reached as high as 40 at 85-45 with 3:59 left in the second half.
