GAFFNEY - The Lander volleyball team split its non-conference games Friday during the opening day of the Limestone Southeast Crossover.
Lander moves to 4-1 overall.
The Bearcats lost their first game of the season when they fell to Lenoir-Rhyne College, 3-2, early Friday afternoon. L-R downed the Bearcats, 13-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-14, 15-7. Kay Stewart had 11 kills and five solo blocks, while Magi Nottingham registered 11 kills. Kendall Eayrs added nine kills and seven solo blocks; Ashley Ferry had nine kills; Candace LaRocca had 41 assists; Marina Camps 27 digs; and Kerri Sorensen 14 digs.
Lander bounced back to defeat Anderson University, 25-21, 25-19, 25-22. Nottingham had 12 kills and four service aces; Sorensen had 10 kills; LaRocca led the team in assists with 35; and Camps and Ferry had 16 digs each.
On Saturday, Lander will face Carson-Newman at 11 a.m. and then take on host Limestone College at 3 p.m.
