WINGATE, N.C. - Led by tournament Most Valuable Player Kerri Sorensen, the Lander volleyball team defeated host Wingate University, 9-25, 25-20, 25-18, 23-25, and 15-11, in the third game of the Wingate Invitational on Saturday. Earlier in the day the Bearcats downed St. Augustine, 25-13, 25-22, 25-16.
Lander is 3-0 on the season, while Wingate dropped to 2-1.
Against Wingate, Sorensen had 19 kills, while Kay Stewart added 13. Candace LaRocca recorded 43 assists, while Marina Camps posted 27 digs. Lander also had six team blocks.
Against St. Augustine, Magi Nottingham and Kendall Eayrs led the way for Lander with eight and seven kills respectively, while LaRocca had 19 assists and Kirsten Stewart six. Camps led the team in digs with nine. Lander totaled seven team blocks and six service aces.
